I-Ching Life Practice
Overview
Interactive text study classes learning how to conduct readings on personal development, goal alignment, problem solving and life pattern choices from The I-Ching (Yijing) ancient Taoist Book of Changes. In consulting the I-Ching, our consciousness is awakened and attuned to an intuitive awareness that is usually ignored as a guide to our lives. This quality of mind "Chung Fu" is our insight into our Inner Truth and cultivation of it through I-Ching studies strengthens and develops this awareness as realand realisable tool in strategising our lives. We are guided to understand that to live the way of Tao is to access and recognise the higher mathematics of the 64 life cycles; manifesting themselves in the interplay of everyday life. In I-Ching studies and readings one is given the opportunity to delve into one of the oldest philosophical works on strategy and problem solving and chart a way back to alignment and harmony in ones life.
Personal Cultivation
After many years of total and continued engagement in this text as a "doing" process of study, the I-Ching is integral in Nilima's practice as an invaluable source of practical advice, guidance and life cultivation. These days her focus draws to the inner teachings of the I-Ching and its study of dissolving the ego patterns we pick up in our lifetimes and that affect us. Patterns learnt that latently lie within our unconscious daily habits and affect our sense of ease, our perception of the world around us, keep us separated and tied to "struggle" as a way forward. Through I-Ching insight we can methodically learn to liberate and empower ourselves from inner conflict; to live in harmony and creativity. By dissolving the inner habits and patterns in everyday life we learn to steer effortlessly through the difficult learning or decline cycles and to amplify and multiply the creative and expansive cycles creating an organic, yet ordered template for manifesting visions, dissolving problems and accessing a realisable manifest potential in our journey forward.
Approach
In classes and private readings, Nilima attempts to open the triagrams and the hexagrams of the I Ching in a clear, useful and accessible way, using the alchemy of the elements and yin/yang correlations to analyse current and coming cycles. She encourages insight into the key aspects of a situation, laying out personal patterns, biorhythms, the repetition of events and signals, as they come spiralling in, attuning to key moments or windows that appear allowing for change and transformation.
As much a study as a reading, Nilima encourages her students to record and review experiences, live with and meditate with ongoing readings, the art of questioning and receiving advice and the importance of the Beginner's Mind in the process; to create continuity of development in following an journey through from undertaking to "crossing the great water" and manifestation through to understanding. She also utelises the seasonal calendar of the British Medicine Wheel to attune to start, growth and fulfillment of each season particularly the Solstices, Equinoxes to understand the movement of energy patterns through life. By plugging into nature, there is a miraculous opportunity to understand what the Taoists studied so infinitely, that the divine order of nature and the universe is the divine order and the Tao of ones affairs.
Text Books
For our common study language and beginners' study, material referred to is from the Richard Wilhelm/Cary F Baynes translation. It is our core text study. Also the Illustrated I-Ching by RL Wing is a beginners' subsidiary book. It has a simple explanation in the beginning to learn how to conduct a reading. In your personal studies you are free to refer and compare with your own personal preferences of translations. In classes and private readings we will be sticking to the recommended book we can all refer to.
